Valentines Trauma

So bf went out Valentines day morning to surprise me with a rose and chocolates. He came home with a box of Baci chocolates (the ones with little love phrases inside like fortune cookies) and a box of Lindt chocolate balls. After eating lunch I immediately went to open the box of Baci. I carefully unwrapped one of the chocolates and pulled the thin transparent paper out from between the foil and the hazelnut ganache covered with milk chocolate.

Here's what the message read:

A man can be happy with any woman as long as he does not love her.

WTF?!?! That's not a love sentence!

What worries me more is the possible truth in the sentence and the possibility that it could also be true for women, perhaps even more true for women.

  1. Ha! I bet some bored employee snuck that quote in there ;-) I do recognise it though, because it came up on my quote generator and I actually thought that in a number of ways it rings true. But to be honest, without love there is a limit to the happiness one can experience because there will be no depth to it. Sure, there is anger and hurt sometimes where love is involved, but that is because love is multifaceted. The love-less route is really only attractive if one wants to avoid any sort of risk (emotional or otherwise).

Just don't let such a quote alter how you view things in your own relationship (should that be the case) lest it become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Hope you had a good day with boyf anyway :-)

  2. Oh yes, it rings very true. And I just looked on the quote again and realized it's a quote by Oscar Wilde... no wonder it was familiar.

Nah I don't let Baci quotes rule my life ;-) lol, I was just annoyed that I managed to get this quote on Valentines day. I was even tempted to call them and complain... I thought that maybe they'd give me a free box of chocolates! :-D

  5. Seems like an odd one to include for a "love" holiday.

  7. I wouldn't say it is true for most, but certainly for some people it is.
Very funny for a Valentine message though.

  9. The messages are all written by bitter 42-year old ex-wives who haven't gotten a Valentine's card in 17 years. It reminds me of two things, one, a song from the wonderful 80's, When you're in love with a beautiful woman

A friend of mine dedicated it to his GF without really listening to the words past the first line.

The second thing is an old Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner where a young couple is frozen with fear based on a fortune they get at a diner.

Fortunes are great fun, and when you get one from Oscar Wilde, you know you are in for a good one.

  10. That was the quote? Next they'll put in "why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free".

  11. Hahaha, what a quote! Valentines day isn't a big thing where I live, but my husband still managed to bring heart shaped chocolates from home, and then onwards to the trip-in-the-trip we were at. I was very impressed, and pleased - I love good chocolate :).

Anyway, I think there's some truth to it. There are as many kinds of happiness as there men and women; it all depends on whether you want the security of a slow walk on the hillside or the thrill of a hike to a hard-to-climb mountaintop. Most probably want both, which is why I'm contemplating being slightly less monogamous in the future ;)

  12. Joe.... I did start to wonder yeah lol.

Swing Girl: I think it's like the saying you can't live with them and you can't live without them... lol

Frenchy: I did get some actually decent quotes... but I've only eaten four so far.

Advizor: I remember that twilight zone episode. It's a classic! I don't think I've ever heard the song before... very disco!

Ebony: LOL that's a good quote I should write to them and suggest it.

Johanna: mmm chocolates! hubby was pretty good then... like mine ;) That's exactly what I'm thinking though.... I want it all... or at least to taste it all....
